Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences - Juniper Publishers   Introduction Ayurveda being an ancient comprehensive science of holistic health care and medicine, apart from eight specialties for human health has mentioned other branches of Ayurveda like Gau-ayurveda (related to cattle), Hasty-ayurveda (related to elephant), Asva-ayurveda (related to horses), Mrig-ayurveda (related to animals), Khag-ayurveda (related to birds), Vrikshya- ayurveda (related to plants) etc. These Ayurvedic sciences were very much enriched with literature and were in practices. In the time span most of the literature and practices are almost lost and very meager are existing in some rural and tribal areas. The human health is dependent on animal health; if animal products are not up to the quality or diseased, that will affect human health. This is true for both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian categories. It is observed that the regular or long term use of chem...

Pharmacological Features of Bioactive Milk Components: An Overview-Juniper Publishers

Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences - Juniper Publishers   Opinion Milk proteins are of immense high nutritional significance for human beings and also possess diverse functional properties like immunological protection and antioxidant effect. In general, the major protein fractions in bovine milk include caseins, immune globulins, lacto-ferrin, proteose-peptide fractions and minor whey proteins such as transfer in and serum albumin. In recent years milk proteins have attracted growing scientific and commercial interest as a source of biologically active molecules. The native milk proteins exhibit a wide range of biological activities that influence the digestive function, metabolic responses to absorbed nutrients, growth and development of organs and disease resistance. Whey proteins, in particular, have been identified with numerous putative functions related to reduction in the risks of many chronic human diseases reflected by the ...

The Effect of Early Postpartum oral Drench Solution on Blood Β-Hydroxybutyrate Concentration, Milk Yield, and Milk Composition in Holstein Cows Authored by Felipe C Cardoso The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of oral drench solution on blood β-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA) concentration, milk yield, and milk composition of Holstein cows. Primiparous and multiparous Holstein cows (n=129) on commercial farms in southern Brazil were blocked by parity and calving season. Cows were randomly assigned to one of two treatments: 1) Control (40 L of water) and 2) Drench (40 L of water containing propylene glycol, rumen-protected choline, and minerals). Treatments were administered immediately after calving and 24 hours later. Cows were fed total mixed rations and milked twice daily. Body condition score (BCS) was assessed weekly. Blood BHBA concentration was measured twice weekly. Concentrations of BHBA were lower (P=0.05) in drench than control cows, 0.93 and ...
