Pharmacological Features of Bioactive Milk Components: An Overview-Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences - Juniper Publishers   Opinion Milk proteins are of immense high nutritional significance for human beings and also possess diverse functional properties like immunological protection and antioxidant effect. In general, the major protein fractions in bovine milk include caseins, immune globulins, lacto-ferrin, proteose-peptide fractions and minor whey proteins such as transfer in and serum albumin. In recent years milk proteins have attracted growing scientific and commercial interest as a source of biologically active molecules. The native milk proteins exhibit a wide range of biological activities that influence the digestive function, metabolic responses to absorbed nutrients, growth and development of organs and disease resistance. Whey proteins, in particular, have been identified with numerous putative functions related to reduction in the risks of many chronic human diseases reflected by the ...

Spatial and Temporal Quantification of the Morphofunctional Components of the Zebrafish kidneys- Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences - Juniper Publishers Abstract Zebrafish is a small fish of the teleost family that has been widely used in animal experimentation to replace the use of rodents. It is characterized as a well defined study model capable of providing experimental information in several research areas. The present work aimed to analyze the spatiotemporal alterations of Zebrafish’s kidney architecture through the measurement of glomerular volume and stromal cell volume over thirteen weeks. We used 72 fish of the species Danio rerio, 6 months old, divided into thirteen groups, so that each group constituted one week. At the end of each week the euthanasia of the animals was promoted and the animals were fixed in aqueous solution of 10% formaldehyde, followed by conventional histological technique, cuts of 4 μm thickness and subsequent staining with Hematoxylin-Eosin. Photomicrographs of 3 random fields of each fragment were obtained, being three fragments p...

The Use of Cryo dehydratated Animal Anatomical Segments for Veterinary Anatomy Teaching- Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences- Juniper Publishers Abstract The veterinary anatomy teaching in the Veterinary Schools around the world has been supported by diverse kinds of innovations such as digital resources and applications, being the use of cadaver's dissections very limited. In the present study, the use of cryo dehydrated anatomical pieces of musculoskeletal structures from large and small animals were experimented for five years and the vantages and advances were computed. The material was prepared using a fixation of fresh material with 10% formalin followed by dissections and freezing-unfreezing sequences until completely be dried. Paints were performed to give a natural appearance. The material produced, including complete limbs from large and small animals had a good quality and preservation of the structures such as ligaments, muscle mass, tendons and apo euroses. The topographical relationships were perfectly maintained and the pieces...

Determination of Phospholipids in Milk by HPLC with Evaporative Light Scattering Detector: Optimization and Validation - Juniper Publishers

Image
Determination of Phospholipids in Milk by HPLC with Evaporative Light Scattering Detector: Optimization and Validation Authored by Rodríguez-Otero JL Phospholipids are part of the milk fat globule membrane. Functional and technological properties make them interesting for the development of functional foods or as ingredients of technological interest. In this study an analytical procedure for determination of major phospholipids in milk (phosphatidyl Ethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidyl Choline, phosphatidyl Serine and sphingomyelin) by HPLC with evaporative light scattering detector was optimized and validated. The best calibrations were achieved when an exponential model was applied; the squared correlation coefficients show a satisfactory linearity ranging from 0.975 to 0.993. The limit of detection for the different phospholipids ranged from 0.17μg for phosphatidyl Serine to 0.61μg for phosphatidyl Ethanolamine; and the limit of quantification...

The Mediterranean Buffalo: an Under Estimated Dairy Ruminant Species - Juniper Publishers

Image
The Mediterranean Buffalo: an Under Estimated Dairy Ruminant Species  Authored by Paolo Ciaramella Mediterranean buffalo’s (MB) milk production represents one of the most important Italian rural economies and assets. The economic activities linked with buffalo milk and mozzarella cheese, represent the 4° food-economy for sales volume in the entire country (more of 320 million of euro and more of 15000 workers) being widely sold all over the Europe. Laser Micro Dissection Systems: An Alternative Method of Defined Cell Isolation for Molecular Profiling - Juniper Publishers

Image
Laser Micro Dissection Systems: An Alternative Method of Defined Cell Isolation for Molecular Profiling   Authored by Ratan K Choudhary Laser micro-dissection permits isolation groups of cells from heterogeneous tissue sections under direct microscopic visualization. This technology not only allows isolation of homogenous subpopulation of cells but also allows immunophenotypically similar cells for RNA/DNA or protein extraction for downstream applications like western blot, mass spectrophotometry, real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, microarray and RNA sequencing. Isolation of dead cells unsuitable for functional assays, high cost of equipment and technical expertise required for operation are few limitations to laser microdissection systems. To Read more..
