Progress and Development of Exopolysaccharides of Lactobacilli

Exopolysaccharides as well as other bioactive substances of Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) attracted much attention due to its specific structure and functions, e.g. tolerance to gastrointestinal (GI) stress, adhesion on the intestinal mucosa, inhibition against pathogens, and modulation of immune system. In this mini-review, we have summarized the recent progress of exopolysaccharides of Lactobacillus spp. on composition, antioxidant activity, colonization and immunity effect, with the aim to highlight the development tendency in the approach of exopolysaccharides of LAB.

Integration of Innovative Technology ‘Narmada Nidhi’ in Backyard Poultry Farming for Empowering Tribal Women Self-Help Groups-Juniper Publishers

JUNIPER PUBLISHERS - OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DAIRY & VETERINARY SCIENCES   Abstract The present study was conducted in six villages of Narayanganj and Niwas blocks of Mandla District. Data were collected through a structured interview schedule by personal interview method. For integration of Narmada Nidhi among tribal women SHGs extension interventions like awareness camps, exposure visits and trainings on poultry management were organized in the study areas. After proper extension interventions, 06 self- help-groups were formed and each group was provided with 50 Narmada Nidhi chickens to empower them. The study data revealed that, extension interventions lead to improvement in knowledge and attitude change among the members of SHGs. The each tribal SHGs were economically benefitted as they received an average income of Rs.17,032 during the 8 months study period. Journal of Dairy & Veterinary Sciences - Juniper Publishers   Introduction Essential oils are aromatic hydrophobic liquids extracted commonly by hydro distillation from a diverse number of plant parts; this includes but is not limited to flowers, buds, seeds, leaves, twigs, bark, wood, fruits, receptacles and roots [ 1 ]. Specific compounds of interest can be obtained from processing plant tissue and using separation techniques. However this approach is expensive, significant amounts of plant material are needed (unfavorable for exotic plant species), and reduced yields are usually obtained. Hence, when on high demand, or the desired compound is identified and isolated, it can be synthetically manufactured.
