Emergency Decapitation of Calf in Hf Cows - Juniper Publishers

Image
Emergency Decapitation of Calf in Hf Cows Authored by Pridhvidhar Reddy YV  The present communication explicates the dystocia in three cross bred heifers owing to malposture and relatively large sized fetus. The malposture was instigated by severe left lateral deviation of head and neck of the fetus. Emergency decapitation was done in all the cases and it was successfully handled without any post-operative complications. Dystocia is defined as delayed or difficult calving, sometimes requiring significant human assistance. The causes of dystocia have been described from a number perspectives based on a analysis of large number of calving records in dairy and beef cows [1]. Fetopelvic disproportion is the foremost cause of dystocia in cross bred heifers [2]. It requires caesarean section for the fetal delivery by virtue of its inability to deliver the fetus through the narrow birth canal of normal size [3]. The present communication envisage the correction and man...

Determination of Phospholipids in Milk by HPLC with Evaporative Light Scattering Detector: Optimization and Validation - Juniper Publishers

Determination of Phospholipids in Milk by HPLC with Evaporative Light Scattering Detector: Optimization and Validation Authored by Rodríguez-Otero JL Phospholipids are part of the milk fat globule membrane. Functional and technological properties make them interesting for the development of functional foods or as ingredients of technological interest. In this study an analytical procedure for determination of major phospholipids in milk (phosphatidyl Ethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidyl Choline, phosphatidyl Serine and sphingomyelin) by HPLC with evaporative light scattering detector was optimized and validated. The best calibrations were achieved when an exponential model was applied; the squared correlation coefficients show a satisfactory linearity ranging from 0.975 to 0.993. The limit of detection for the different phospholipids ranged from 0.17μg for phosphatidyl Serine to 0.61μg for phosphatidyl Ethanolamine; and the limit of quantification...

The Importance of Corynebacterium Bovis Causing Mastitis - Juniper Publishers

Image
The Importance of Corynebacterium Bovis Causing Mastitis| Juniper Publishers Authored by Helio Langoni Bovine mastitis is the most frequent disease in dairy farms and cause several economic losses. Coryne bacterium bovis is a common agent of intra-mammary infections. This pathogen presents less importance for many researchers but there are many reasons to evaluate its participation as an important etiological pathogen of mastitis, such as the occurrence of this microorganism in the etiology of the bovine mastitis, effects on milk production and in somatic cell count (SCC). A Review on Non-Invasive Pregnancy Diagnosis in Wild Cats - Juniper Publishers

Image
A Review on Non-Invasive Pregnancy Diagnosis in Wild Cats Authored by Mostafa A Mahmoud Many wild cats around the world are facing the danger of extinction due mainly to habitat destruction, poaching, illegal trade, inbreeding, diseases and conflict with humans. As a result, conservationists moved towards the application of ex-situ conservation programs through captive breeding to save endangered species for future introduction to their natural homes. However, breeding success of these cats in captivity relies largely to the availability of non-invasive techniques using urine and fecal samples to detect pregnancy hormones in the early stages of reproductive management. Wild cats are usually prone to stress when physically restrained for blood collection to carry out pregnancy tests. This stress jeopardizes the success of captive breeding of endangered cat species. Monitoring reproductive hormones in urine and feces provided an alternative and successful tool for reproductive man...

Effects of Prolonged Consumption of Water with Elevated Nitrate Levels on Certain Blood Serum Trace and Macro Elements of Dairy Cattle and Use of Clinoptilolite for their Amelioration - Juniper Publishers

Image
Effects of Prolonged Consumption of Water with Elevated Nitrate Levels on Certain Blood Serum Trace and Macro Elements of Dairy Cattle and Use of Clinoptilolite for their Amelioration Authored by Katsoulos PD Elevated levels of nitrates in feed and water can pose a significant risk for dairy cattle, due to their cumulative action. The effect of prolonged consumption of water naturally contaminated with nitrates on the serum concentrations of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) was investigated at the present study. Concurrently, it was evaluated whether the combination of in-feed inclusion of clinoptilolite and of consumption of water naturally contaminated with nitrates, could have any effect on these elements. Two experiments were run simultaneously in two farms each. In the first trial (Trial 1), farm 1 and farm 2 were assigned into two groups according to the nitrate levels in the borehole water. The first group (n...

Towards a Sustainable Reproductive Sheep Management: Use of Photoperiod-Treated Rams to Increase Lamb Production in an Organic Farm - Juniper Publishers

Towards a Sustainable Reproductive Sheep Management: Use of Photoperiod-Treated Rams to Increase Lamb Production in an Organic Farm Authored by José-Alfonso Abecia The aim of this experiment was to determine the effect of the exposure of 45 days of long days without exogenous melatonin, on the results of a ram effect in June in a Churra sheep organic farm. Eight rams were divided into two groups, so that half of them exposed to 45 days of long days (16 h of light/day) from 15 Apr to 31 May (Artificial photoperiod, AP rams), and the remaining rams were under the natural photoperiodic conditions (NP rams). On 15 June, rams were introduced in two groups of ewes, which had previously been isolated from rams: AP-group (n=72), mated with AP rams, and NP-group (n=72), mated with NP rams. Proportion of ewes pregnant (fertility) was significantly higher in the AP-group of ewes (68%), compared with the NP-group (42%) (P<0.001). No differences between groups were observe...

The Mediterranean Buffalo: an Under Estimated Dairy Ruminant Species - Juniper Publishers

The Mediterranean Buffalo: an Under Estimated Dairy Ruminant Species  Authored by Paolo Ciaramella Mediterranean buffalo’s (MB) milk production represents one of the most important Italian rural economies and assets. The economic activities linked with buffalo milk and mozzarella cheese, represent the 4° food-economy for sales volume in the entire country (more of 320 million of euro and more of 15000 workers) being widely sold all over the Europe.
